Full Article: Peace of Mind in a Turbulent World
[The extreme quest continues! Many people are looking for peace in honor and prosperity, in happiness and power, in education and ,knowledge, in human relationships and marriage. They wish to fill their heads with knowledge and their bags with wealth, but their souls, remain empty. Some try to escape from the realities of life by taking drugs or alcohol, but the peace they seek eludes them. They are still empty and lonely, still with a sad heart in a sad world.]
A man in a vagrant state.
God created man and placed him in a beautiful garden to experience _perfect peace, joy and happiness. But when Adam and Eve: disobeyed God’s command, they were immediately overcome with guilt. Before they longed for God’s presence, now they hide ;themselves in shame. The peace and joy they had experienced was now replaced by guilt and fear. A troubled world—and a troubled mind—began with man’s sin.
Even though our spirit desires God, our sinful nature rebels against His ways. This inner conflict creates stress and anxiety. When we, like Adam _and Eve, become self-centered in our own desires and lusts, we become distracted and troubled. The more we stress ourselves, the more miserable we ,become. The uncertainties of life and the changing, decaying world shake our security and disturb our peace.
You may not recognize it or admit it, but the restlessness within you” may be sin. Many people look for external and material things to find peace. They blame the troubled world for their troubled mind. But they fail to look into their own hearts.
Jesus Christ, Prince of Peace.
[There can be no true peace until all aspects of our lives are brought into harmony with the God who made us and understands us. This is possible _only through complete devotion to Christ. He is not only the master of this world, but He _also understands our life from beginning to end. He came into this world to “give light to those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, and to lead our feet into the path of peace” (Luke 1:79) and thus He was thinking of us.]
Jesus offers light for darkness, peace for strife, joy for sorrow, hope for despair, and life for death. He says in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you. I give you my peace. … Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Repentance brings peace of mind.
When you feel weighed down by the weight of sin, the solution for you is this: “Repent and turn, that your sins may be blotted out” (Acts 3:19). Jesus invites you to a most meaningful, life-changing experience. Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). First John chapter 1 verse 9 promises, “If we confess our sins, he will forgive us our _sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, for he is faithful and just.” Will you accept his invitation?
[When you come to Jesus, you will find forgiveness and freedom. Instead of anger and unforgiveness, your heart is filled with love and mercy. By letting Jesus rule your heart, you will love even your enemies. This is possible through the power of Christ’s redeeming blood.]
Peace that lasts.
As a Christian, believing in _God and trusting in His care is the cure for fear and anxiety. How comforting it is to trust in a God who never changes from eternity to eternity. He loves us and will always “care for us. So, why worry and worry? Learn to practice as 1 Peter 5:7 says, “Cast all your anxiety on Him, for He cares for you.” We are also given the promise, “You will keep him in complete peace whose heart is fixed on you, because he trusts in you” (Isaiah 26:3).
[If Jesus Christ is in your heart, your search for peace is complete. He will give you the peace and tranquility that comes only by trusting in Him. You can also say with the poet:]
Where there is no peace I find peace
Where the wind moves There is peace
A secret place Where I am face to face With
my master I am in trouble I will not say
You will find peace of mind in a turbulent world! Open the door of your heart to Christ—now—and someday He will open to you the door of heaven, where perfect peace will reign forever and ever.
