noticed in the newspapers, magazines, and television shows a lot of talk about meditation. Some of it is taken from eastern religions, some of it is sort of psychological, some of it is just the creation of some individual who writes a book and gets a movement going. The Bible, however, talks very plainly and very clearly about meditation – meditation we practice without even being aware of it. It says in the book of Psalms, chapter 1, “Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers. But his delight is in the word of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night [Psalm 1:1-2].”
You know, that is Christian meditation. That edifies you. That keeps you in balance. That keeps you from going in the wrong direction and drifting into the paths of darkness. You walk in the light when you meditate on the word of God. And one of the secrets of success in the Christian life – what this book of Psalms says, and many other passages we will look at in future days – you delight yourself in the law of the Lord, you meditate on it day and night, and as a result you will be peaceful, joyful, and close to the Lord.
