Genesis 2:21-22 New King James Version (NKJV)

21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam, and he slept; and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh in its place. 22 Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He [h]made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

When God took Woman out of Man, Woman was not inferior to Man, but she was taken out of Man. Man was designated to be the HEAD (‘rule’) of her because she was taken out of him. God did not command Man to boss over her. He said to Adam: ‘You will be the HEAD’, because it was Man’s form (house) in first appearance. Since God took her out of him, she was made from the exact same substance as him.

When God took Woman out of Man, Woman was not inferior to man…Man and Woman were designed to rule together.

Man and Woman were, therefore, designed to rule together. But because Man was there first in shape/form, man knew the garden better than Woman. Man had revelations of the garden from God that he needed to instruct the Woman: Man was intended to teach Woman the things that God had already taught him. All of a sudden Man had to become a teacher, and instead of transferring God’s revelations to the Woman, he gave her his own mind.

Enter the serpent. When the enemy came, he approached the one with the copy, and not the original revelation. The enemy will always try to deceive someone who holds an imitation/counterfeit revelation. This is why Satan went to the Woman, sparking doubt by saying, “Has God indeed said…” (Gen 3:1), because he knew that she had not received the original revelation. The serpent could then persuade the Woman to take the first bite since the Woman was searching for more wisdom through the power of her husband. But remember, that when she ate, her eyes were not opened immediately. God could not punish or blame Woman for what He did not tell her directly. The original revelation was entrusted to the man, but since the man had a soft spot (a ‘wound’) for his wife, he tasted the fruit when she brought it to him. And it was only when Man ate the fruit that both pairs of eyes were opened.

If Man had not eaten, all would have been well.

By spiritual law[1], the woman was protected right up until her husband ate the fruit. If Man had not eaten, all would have been fine (Man just had to say no to cancel the ‘vow’ that Woman had made). However, the woman ate (made a vow) and the man knew and did not say anything, therefore, in God’s eyes, the vow was sealed. The very reason why both pairs of eyes were opened was because man (as the head) did not cancel the vow! The mistake did not lie with the wife, but with the man. Eve could have eaten fruit as long as she wanted, the man only had to say, ‘No!’, for the eating to mean nothing before God. For all married woman, a husband has the POWER to nullify any of the vows a wife makes by simply disagreeing.

8 And they heard the [c]sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the [d]cool [wind/breeze] of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. 9 Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.” 11 And He said, “Who told you that you were naked? Have you eaten from the tree of which I commanded you that you should not eat?” 12 Then the man said, “The woman whom You gave to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I ate.”

The unsaved (not in relationship with Jesus Christ) can sense the presence of God. Even when Adam had lost the connection with God, he was sensitive to discern His presence. When God came walking in the cool of the day, God came in the Spirit (‘wind’ or ‘breath’ means Spirit). Adam heard God’s voice calling out to him, and he hid behind the trees because Adam discerned they were in trouble.

Adam and his wife tried to use the trees that they were supposed to rule over, as a cover for their sin. This was the reverse of God’s original plan, and became the first step towards nature worship. The first person to ask nature to protect him was Adam (the very man who was mandated to rule over nature). Then God asked the first question in human history: ‘Where are you?’ God knew exactly where they were and what had happened, so He was not referring to their physical location. God was asking about Adam’s spiritual position because when God looked in the Spirit, He could not see them, and knew that they had come into the flesh.

The first question in human history: ‘Where are you?’

When God asked his next question, “Who told you that you were naked? (Gen 3:10), God was looking for the source of the problem. Even though Adam had laid the blame on his wife, God knew that she was not the source of this problem. God traced the root back to the devil.Adam and his wife tried to use the trees that they were supposed to rule over, as a cover for their sin. Because of this, God cursed…

  • the snake itself (physical being effected: to crawl and eat dust)
  • the labour experience of woman (in pain you will bring forth children) and
  • the ground around man; the ground from which Adam was taken

You will notice that God did not curse Adam himself! The ground that was supposed to feed him was now turned against him meaning that he would have to work hard to eat. The ground then signifies struggle in work, and this is how work came to be understood as a curse.

Men were not created to generate provision, but to rather manage and maintain the provision of the Father. Everything was fully provided for by God! In fact, Adam was created (came into the world) already fully grown. God did not create man to struggle; God created man to enjoy what had already been provided for. When man was created, provision was already there.

[1] It is written in Numbers (30:2-6) that if an UNMARRIED woman makes a vow to the Lord, and she obeys/submits it to her father, that if the father disagrees with the vow, God will not hold her to that vow. Likewise, if a MARRIED woman makes a vow without her husband present, and she submits it to him and he disagrees, God will cancel the vow because the head has said, ‘No!’
