Welcome to today’s devotion.
Divine Will
Revelation 3:14-18
If we lack the will of purity and sincerity of the Holy Spirit, we will find that it is very easy to become comfortable in our Christianity. The Laodicean neither cold nor hot spirit characterizes the church today. Many have turned cold from the fire and intense heat.
Don’t be a hot or cold believer.
Do not compromise the cross by allowing small sins to be a part of your life. Christ challenges us to come from the Christian life with excuses. What do we go to; And connect with the world; To prove where we really are, we either really connect with His people, to be on fire for God. God wants a church with character, full of divine will. Who cares if you’re not living in some horrible, exposed sin?
If you are taking your salvation for granted and denying His claims on your life, then sin, separated from His purpose, will characterize your life.
When Christians do not respond to the fire of the Holy Spirit, Christ wants them to come out of their mouths, just as He wants His life to be revealed to the world through them. Most churches and believers today refuse to participate in what God is doing. They choose to remain neither hot nor cold, neither for him nor against him. As a person, rejecting His call to salvation means going into eternal damnation. To reject His call as a Christian is to allow thousands to go to hell because of our own indifference to His voice.
Today’s reading passage: Revelation 17-18
Divine Will and Revelation 3:14-18
The concept of Divine Will is central to Christianity, guiding believers to live according to God’s purpose. One powerful passage that speaks about aligning with God’s will is Revelation 3:14-18, where Jesus addresses the church in Laodicea. This passage reveals God’s desire for wholehearted devotion and warns against spiritual complacency.
1. Understanding Revelation 3:14-18
📖 Revelation 3:14-18 (ESV):
“And to the angel of the church in Laodicea write: ‘The words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of God’s creation. I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth. For you say, ‘I am rich, I have prospered, and I need nothing,’ not realizing that you are wretched, pitiable, poor, blind, and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined by fire, so that you may be rich, and white garments so that you may clothe yourself and the shame of your nakedness may not be seen, and salve to anoint your eyes, so that you may see.’”
A. Jesus’ Introduction (v.14)
✅ Jesus introduces Himself as:
- “The Amen” – The final word, the faithful and unchanging truth.
- “The faithful and true witness” – His judgment is righteous.
- “The beginning of God’s creation” – Christ is the source and sustainer of all things.
B. The Problem: Spiritual Lukewarmness (v.15-16)
🔸 The Laodicean church was neither “hot” nor “cold”, meaning they lacked zeal and passion for God.
🔸 Jesus says, “I will spit you out of my mouth”, signifying His disgust toward their half-hearted faith.
🔸 This reflects people who claim to follow God but live self-satisfied, spiritually lazy lives.
C. The False Security of Wealth (v.17)
🔸 The Laodiceans believed they were wealthy and self-sufficient, but Jesus declared them spiritually poor, blind, and naked.
🔸 This reveals Divine Will—God wants us to depend on Him, not earthly riches.
D. Jesus’ Loving Correction (v.18)
✅ Jesus offers three things to restore them:
- Gold refined by fire – True, eternal wealth found in faith tested by trials.
- White garments – Righteousness that covers spiritual shame.
- Eye salve – Spiritual insight to see God’s truth.
This passage teaches that God’s will is for believers to be spiritually passionate, humble, and dependent on Him rather than worldly success.
2. How This Relates to the Divine Will
A. God’s Will Is That We Are Spiritually Alive, Not Lukewarm
- God’s will is not passive faith, but a life of devotion and action.
- Romans 12:11 – “Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.”
B. God’s Will Is That We Seek Eternal Riches, Not Earthly Wealth
- The Laodiceans valued material wealth but were spiritually poor.
- Matthew 6:19-20 – “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth… But store up treasures in heaven.”
C. God’s Will Is That We Walk in Purity and Righteousness
- The white garments represent Christ’s righteousness, which we must put on by faith.
- 2 Corinthians 5:21 – “God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.”
D. God’s Will Is That We Have Spiritual Vision
- The eye salve represents true understanding and discernment.
- Psalm 119:18 – “Open my eyes that I may see wonderful things in Your law.”
3. Applying Divine Will in Our Lives
🔥 How Can We Align with God’s Will Based on This Passage?
A. Self-Examination: Are We Lukewarm?
- Ask: Am I on fire for God, or am I spiritually complacent?
- James 1:22 – “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
B. Pursuing Heavenly Riches
- Shift focus from earthly success to eternal rewards.
- Invest in prayer, worship, serving others, and studying God’s Word.
C. Seeking Spiritual Vision
- Pray for God to open our spiritual eyes to His truth.
- Spend time in the Word daily to gain wisdom and understanding.
