Welcome to today’s devotion.
Standing in the distance?
“O Lord, why do you stand afar off; Why do you hide in times of trouble?” This is a description of a certain class of people. Many people have gone through these times. Perhaps, they have not defined their problem in this way, as the writer of the hymn has given. However, it is in God’s plan to teach us a life of faith. The author of the hymn follows this verse with the description of another class of people. Those who belong to this category have their conscience suppressed and now they walk freely from God’s love and power. They sin as much as they want. They persecute the poor, take pride in their heart’s desires, bless the greedy, and adopt the philosophy that there is no God. It appears that the psalmist, bold in his prayer, says, “Break thou the arm of the wicked,” and attains spiritual truth to his subject. He feels that he was not humble. He realizes that the Lord is King forever and that the Gentiles have been destroyed from the land, he now knows that the Lord has heard the desire of the humble.
What a message! God hears the humble. No wonder we must focus on God’s word. Every other form of evolution is deceptive and self-limiting. It is very important for every believer to know humility. Some people place their service to God above and beyond. Even as a businessman, we should humble ourselves in the eyes of God. A true servant is humble before people and God cares about his servants.
