Welcome to today’s devotion.
Without Reason
- Matthew 15:22-28
Abraham failed. It was inevitable and proven true. He was untrustworthy in one case after another. What effect did this have on his covenant with God? Jesus honored him with grace, called him back to fellowship by faith; And graciously forgave him. Abraham came out of failure, not to begin the process of returning to God, but simply to live up to the fullness of the promise made to him on the basis of grace.
Respond in faith without any evaluation of reason, logic and vision. God wants to teach us to respond to His every intervention. In every lion’s den, and fiery furnace, He wants us to learn to be responsive. Most of the time this is exemplified in marriage. A wife reacts based on everything she receives from her husband. When her husband gives her everything she wants, her response is a happy one. But if he doesn’t buy everything she wants, how will she react?
God does not want you to respond based on what He has done, but based on who He is, base your response on who God is in the covenant of grace. If you are waiting for a certain blessing, you can go for many days without responding to God. Learn to respond to God because of who He is, not because of what you receive to meet a need. A wife responds to her husband, not because of what he buys, promises or gives, but because of who he is. More than anything else, God wants us to walk in response to Him.
