Jayamsih..! Welcome to today’s devotion!
Blessed on the basis of another
Genesis 17:1-14
Abraham, who had failed God and was in the process of failing, received a word from God. God met Abraham, called him to walk before the One who is Almighty. Walking before God is the most beautiful thing. It is not walking in front of people to please them or walking in front of our needs to submit to them, nor is it walking in fear of slipping without faith. To walk before God is to walk in an irrefutable plan and arrangement. Every step is taken before God; Because of this, we are not walking in uncertainty or an unknown quantity. Our walk is blessed based on the promise, and not on our ability to handle ourselves according to our own standards. God has already said that Christ is acceptable, that is why our safe dwelling place is placed in him.
It was the act of circumcision that made him a spiritual man. We have been made spiritual through faith in Christ’s death for us and now lives in us, so that through him we too can live like him. Abraham was blessed by what was done to his body. Jesus gives us the task of Colossians 2:10-12, cutting off the flesh and making us spiritual people, (Romans 2:29) and making us united with Him, (Galatians 3:29). We enter the spiritual land of promise. Circumcision helps us experience the covenant of grace. A body that would never succeed was cut off. God crucified Adam, so that we could enter into the covenantal value of circumcision.
