Losing one’s life to be protected by a word
John 12:25, 14:23
- There is only certain safety and security with those who live in the word. In the presence of the Word, they may agree outwardly, and inwardly rejoice in their conscience: but this is a momentary state, for those who try to save their lives, end up losing them. They may have kept the word as a social priority and have not allowed it to remain in a permanent place in their lives. They live with a standard and accepted behavior toward God’s Word, feeling secure, and yet they feel vulnerable, when the Word is ministered, so that it may live in them.
To say that “the Word lives in me” is to say that I am in the vanity of my own standards and living concepts. I have life from above, which has set the course for my earthly life.
Bringing people to the Word is a start, but bringing the Word to people is a different matter; That is life itself. The Word is not only a source of rest and comfort; This is a place where my life is complementary to the purpose of the state. Life is ministered in me by the word, but fruit is produced in it, and also by me, when the word dwells in it. A person is alone without God’s protection and misses his opportunity spiritually when he takes his own concept of life. To serve God we must follow Him in the structured details of His sovereign plan. The promise is more than a promise of eternal security. It brings life with the act of trusting the throne. Complete security comes through abiding in Christ.
