God’s Anointed Man
2 Samuel 1:17-22
David, who is God’s anointed man, set an excellent example for every believer to follow. When the body tried to climb the ladder of approval to claim “respect for Saul’s murder”, David responded to the end by rejecting the body and its actions with a heart of truth and killed the Amalekites, (2 Samuel 1:15).
David’s heart is true towards Saul, who was God’s anointed man. Let us try to understand this truth. The Lord does not accept any blame. God does not accept accusations from believers, angels, or Satan. Jesus never blamed. While many people rejoice at the defeat of the enemy, David is deeply saddened.
Even after Saul’s scheming attempts to kill David repeatedly, David did not exalt himself after Saul’s death, but instead covered his defeat with love, and thought no evil, (Proverbs 25:2, 1 Corinthians 13:5). Is it not for the glory of God to cover up any issue? That’s why David says, “Don’t tell it in the streets, don’t tell it in the streets” (2 Samuel 1:20).
David also said, “Saul and Jonathan were beloved and lovely during their lifetime” (2 Samuel 1:23). David helped Saul, and built him up with words of grace (2 Samuel 1:24). This is the work of the anointed. His heart is according to God, and love and truth flow, and serve. Is it not the healing ointment of the Holy Spirit that builds up the body of Christ, encourages people, and honors the truth of God? Yes, this is true!
