Mark My Heart1 Corinthians 4:9-17
- Paul’s heart is a remarkable thing. God has given us a perfect picture of the man of God through Paul’s life, along with his statements. Imagine and pay attention to Paul’s startling words about himself. Note also that Paul sent Timothy to the Corinthian church so that Timothy could remind the believers of the manner in which the apostle had lived. The apostle says, Remember how I live, watch and observe, and demonstrate it by your own life.
- People don’t like to think of themselves as followers. They like their personality. They like to be known as a different person with a separate identity. Yet Paul says, “Mark and imitate my heart. Do the things that you have seen in me.” (Philippians 4:9)
- There are many things in the Word that are proper for believers to do. All things are fair but not all things are beneficial. Beneficial means something that is of greatest value to the greatest number of people at a given time. What Paul meant was that he could do whatever he could under the sovereign God, but he was very careful that whatever he did would edify the body of Christ. There are many people who can teach us about Christ. But there are not many people, after whom we can mold our lives. An apostolic ministry gives us a model, which we can look up to in all the details of life; Then, by simple faith, in the conduct of a child’s heart we appear!
