Orderly Discipleship
John 15:19-25
- Instead of listening to the words, “All you have to do is deny yourself, or you cannot be my disciple,” many people want the language of discipleship to be ordered, where they can accept it based on common sense. They desire all that Adam desired and yet strive to do in themselves all that God deems necessary. It is indeed a comfortable Christian world, which has no heart to suffer. People say that they are suffering and seal it as such. But in reality, they are only suffering from what they are reaping in the body.
What is biblical discipleship, as it is portrayed in God’s Word? When was the apostle John in prison on the island of Patmos? Jesus called the disciples, and all but John were eventually martyred. John refused any easy thinking. Of course it doesn’t make sense, but it’s the kind of introduction that will come in the future. Satan wants people to settle down to satisfy their desires. Satan wants to make sure that you are secure in temporal things so that you do not please God spiritually.
How famous was Jesus when he made explicit claims to discipleship? How famous will preachers and individuals be if they equip themselves with such a mind? People react to this, get angry and attack discipleship like crazy. why Because they are so conditioned to be worldly that they cannot even pray the cross until they get a response from them. But it will be argued, and for some it will not be comfortable. The result is John 6:66.
