The genealogy of how the Lord Jesus came to this world is written in Matthew chapter 1 verses 1-16. Some women are mentioned in the genealogy of Jesus Christ. Their names are (a) Tamar Matthew 1:3, (b) Rahab – Matthew 1:5, (c) Ruth – Matthew 1:5, (d) Baleba wife of Uriah) – Matthew 1:6, (e) Mary – Matthew 1:16. 1. Tamarind .
Tamar means “date tree”. The name Tamar is written 3 times in the Old Testament. First is Judah’s daughter-in-law in Genesis chapter 38. Second, David’s daughter in 2 Samuel 13. Thirdly in verse 2 Samuel 14:27 Absalom had three sons and one daughter. Her name is Tamaru. In Genesis 38:1 Judah left his brothers and went to stay with an Adullamite named Hera. Judah was one of the sons of Jacob. According to Genesis 49:8 Judah means praise. That is why Judah prophesied in Micah 5:2 that Jesus Christ would be born from their families. “O Bethlehem Ephrathah, you are a small village among the families of Judah, and from you shall come the ruler of the Israelites for me. From ancient times to eternal times. He was appearing.” It is written. The fulfillment of this prophecy is recorded in Matthew 2:5. God killed them because they appeared wicked in God’s sight. One day, after the death of Judah’s wife, Tamar knew that Judah was going to Timnath, and Tamar sat on the way to Enai, who was going to Timnath. Judah considered her a harlot and sinned with her. Judah begot Perez and Zerah in Tamar. Peresu means difference, Zerah means sprouting. Judah asked Tamar to go to his house and be a widow. God did not end the lives of widows. From them we see the birth of Lord Jesus Christ.
2. Rahab.
Joshua 2:1 tells us that Rahab, meaning ‘spacious’, was a harlot who lived in a house above the wall of Jericho. “Joshua the son of Nun called two men who were fast – and told them that you should go and see that country, especially Jericho, and he sent them secretly from Shittimu. They went and joined Rahab, a harlot, and went down there.” Her house is on the rampart. Everyone knows the life of a prostitute. As her name suggests, she is a horrible adulteress, rampant in sin. Another meaning is “pride” meaning she is proud and lives in adultery. Neglecting the soul, she lived a depraved life without any relationship with God or fear of God or fear of elders. The people of Jericho do not consider adultery to be such a serious sin. Because they are all addicted to evil deeds. That is why God sent the mighty men to destroy the city of Jericho. Rahab hid the swifts. The king intended to harm them but God saved them. They heard the gospel of salvation for her. Ruth means ‘beauty’. Ruth 1:1 “In the days of the judges, when there was a famine in the land, a man from Bethlehem of Judah took his wife and two sons with him and went to live in the land of Moab.” There was a famine during the time of the judges. They left Bethlehem and went to the land of Moab. Bethlehem means house of food or bread. Moab is a cursed place. Samriddhi left the place where there was plenty of food and went to the place where there was no food. They went from here to there as if from distant hills. After leaving, Ruth’s maternal uncle died, Ruth’s uncle died, and her husband Kilyon died. Three widows were left in the land of Moab. Naomi called her in-laws and told them to go to your homes and get married again. It is written in Ruth 1:14 that Orpah went back but Ruth touched her aunt. 4. Bathsheba.
Matthew 1:6 “By Uriah’s wife David begat Solomon.” Uriah’s wife was Bathsheba. Bathsheba means “daughter of the oath”. David brought Uriah’s wife, Bathsheba, when the Israelites attacked Rabbah, the capital of Ammonites. David killed Uriah for that. 2 Samuel 11, 12 chapters have written about this matter. Nathan condemns this sin of David. Then David repents. He confesses his sin. But God kills the son he gave to David. 5. Maria.
Matthew 1:16 “Jacob begat Joseph the husband of Mary, and of her was born Jesus, who is called Christ.” There are six Marys in the New Testament. (a) Mother of Jesus – Matthew 1:16, (b) Martha, sister of Lazarus – Luke 10:38,39, (c) Mary Magdalene Luke 8:2, (d) Mother of James. A different Mary, wife of Clopas refers to all three of the same person – Matthew 27:55,56, 28:1, John 19:25. (e) Mother of Mark – Apoca. 12:12, (f) A Roman Christian – Romans 16:6 Mary was given to Joseph, a resident carpenter of Nazareth. Conceived by the Holy Spirit. Joseph wanted to leave secretly but the angel told Joseph that Jesus would be born of a human woman without human intercourse. Both Mary and Joseph were descendants of David. The scriptures say that Jesus Christ is a descendant of Abraham (Gen 22:10), a tribe of Judah (Gen 49:10), and a descendant of David (2 Sam 7:12-13). Tamar, Rahab, Ruth, Bathsheba, All of them begot children by human will. But Mary conceived Jesus without human intervention. That’s why Job 14:4 “No one can be born as good as a sinless one can be born from a sinful man”, a sinless person is pure, born pure by the Holy Spirit in the womb of the Virgin Mary. So no one else was born except Jesus Christ. not born All those mentioned above left their husbands and gave children to their successors. But we read that Mary is a virgin. 1Corinthi 7:34 “In the same way the unmarried woman and the virgin are concerned about the works of the Lord, so that they may be pure in body and spirit.” To remove that worry, the Lord was born to the holy Mary and made her happy.
His intention to be born from families of harlots and widows is that you should not be like me and live a holy life, 1 Timothy 1:15 “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.” Jesus is the savior who saves his people from their sins. That’s why he was named Jesus (Matthew 1:21) God who saved Tamar, Rahab, Ruth and Bathsheba who were in sin left heaven and came down to earth to save us too. If you and I are in sin, let us confess our sins because He is faithful and He will save us. May God make them saints and make them heirs to his kingdom.
