Breath of the Holy Spirit
Luke 8:4-8
- Continuing the parable of Luke 8, we come to the third hearer. This man heard the word and went forward, and yet did not bear fruit. Covered by natural solemnity, he looked through what was visible to be devoted. A first outward glance will never reveal a deceitful heart. As time goes by, the evil mind within reveals its fruits. No one can hide from God, nor can the final result be hidden from the world. Until a man is covered by the blood of Christ, he is spiritually naked before everyone because of the law of sin and death. Everyone will know the price you pay because of the effects it has on your body. If the soul is not healthy, the physical body will not flourish.
Many people appear before God as a ground full of thorns. Before God’s Holy Spirit is allowed to sow the seed of light, the thorns are ready to choke the life. When such people listen to the Word, they have other thoughts in their minds. They don’t get much from service because their hearts are full of thorns. They feel that they can take the promises of Canaan while still experiencing the Egyptian portion. Instead of allowing them to use the Word of God, it tries to match the good part of the tree of knowledge. They listen to God’s word with full attention, and have the strength to face it, but if they had contact with the crucifixion, Adam would have turned from good to dead. - Today’s reading passage is Exodus 25 – 27
