Don’t Forsake Gathering Together
Hebrews 10:25
- When we ourselves gather together to hear a preacher preach, it is greater than listening to a man of God. Through the assembly of brothers, God intends to reveal the hidden mysteries, (Colossians 1:26-27). In Acts 4:31-34, God’s power is boldly revealed. There is great expectation with the flock gathered together, for they shook the place together to pray, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit. They were of one heart and one soul and everything was shared between them. Great power testified to the apostles about the resurrection of the Lord Jesus. Great grace was in them all.
In Hebrews 11:15-16 God’s Word mentions that we seek a new country and we must set our minds on Christ – our heavenly substance, so that there is no opportunity to return to the things we have left. By gathering ourselves, we give reason to draw our beloved into his inner chamber (Song 1:4), so that we may eat of his fruit (Song 2:3), and so that his right hand may embrace us (Song 2:6). We gather together, that we may dwell under the shadow of the Almighty, and dwell in the secret place of the Most High (Psalm 91:1).
When we meet together, when great grace rests upon us, we may think in the sense of the head, and take in the sense of the throne: but if we omit the assembly of the head, we hinder the ministry of the Holy Spirit in the cooperative fellowship of God’s mind.
