Dwellers in tents
Deuteronomy 1:27
- In the midst of spiritual defeat, the children of Israel all went to their own tents (1 Samuel 4:10). Let us remember that they were defeated and retreated. Also we can see in Deuteronomy 1:27 that the children of Israel murmured in their own tents. Having your own tent is by no means unbiblical; However, it is absolutely wrong to use your tabernacle as a substitute for fellowship or as a place to rebel against God’s plan.
The children of Israel, when they were in the wilderness, said, “Because the Lord hated us, he brought us out of the land of Egypt.” Where was their place of expression? In their tent. Thus men often retreat to their private rooms, to their personal and trusted friends, to relate nothing less than the conversation of Adam’s rebellion in their hearts against God and His provision of grace. Why does God take us out into the wilderness? Simply, so that everything we need is provided by God, not by the world. The problem, however, is that instead of approaching, the tendency is to retreat. We should give a special place for thanks and appreciation in the heat of the test. If we express the victory of the body in our tent among our family and friends, then there is no question that the same expression is expressed in the assembly of the body. Our personal tabernacle should be nothing less than a place for the presence of Christ.
