Friendship: Serving Us in Love
Matthew 6:22-24
- How great is the darkness of a man, when he considers the darkness within him to be light. How vast is the darkness when he loses sight of God’s eternal purpose and singular vision in all that he does, but lives a robbed life by investing his efforts in all things that rust and perish. When he declares that he is experiencing freedom, he is really bound or enslaved to himself, to Satan, or to the world.
Many people allow the world, the flesh, and the devil to rule over their right to exist.
Circumstances dominate people by routine, mold them to the levels presented and demanded. For example, friendships are ordained by God to serve us, to spread love and communicate peace, hope and rest, to bring out good things in each of us. But when these friendships become masters instead of servants, they violate Calvary. Two people can be so close in their friendship that they go against God’s administration, God’s word, Christ’s body of love and the reality of truth, even to protect themselves. Instead of serving the Word of God to bring forward the love of Christ, friendship becomes the master, and the friend becomes a servant on a level of God’s Word. And what God made for our rest and our good becomes evil, which controls our lives and begins to serve Satan’s purposes.
