Matthew 22:1-14
- Because of the presentation of the son to the father, the father made marriage for the son. Because the blood of Jesus was offered, people on earth were invited to come to the feast. The preparations for the feast are over. In the parable, people are told to come and eat without the need to do any work before and after going to the feast. It clearly reveals the Father’s invitation to sinners, because the Son’s blood was given for us as a supper of the finished work. In the parable, many did not come to the wedding. While they refused, the Word does not give any reason that their refusal was due to sin. They were not prevented from coming because of certain sins, but it can be seen that certain occupations prevented them from coming. In reality, all they had to do was come and they could feast on the work done. And yet their schedules prevented them from coming.
At the end of life, some people allow their schedule to be such that they deprive themselves of heaven and send themselves to hell. It may not be a venial sin, but merely a crowded schedule, which prevents one from eating at the table of grace. It is possible that hell will be filled with good people, those who were more busy with outside activities than knowing Christ. Thousands have been called to be saved, but they were too busy to come, and ate enough to avoid grace. They are not saved, because they never ate the food that Christ, who is Christ, should have been put in. Their lives are without his life. That which could have made them accepted, Christ’s life has made us accepted by God.
