How did
Christ suffer?
How did Christ suffer? (How did Christ suffer?) Many Gentiles are not in the business of knowing the truth. Many of them are in the business of mocking. Why Jesus had to suffer is written in detail in the Bible, which is God’s book, before He came to this earth. By reading God’s scriptures, we can know the mind of God and the plan of God . We have already studied many times why Jesus received them. Now let us know how Jesus suffered. First, we can worship our Lord because of what He has done so sacrificially for us! Secondly, by knowing how Christ suffered, we can understand more clearly what kind of suffering we ought to suffer. If we read Isaiah 53:1-12 we can understand why Jesus suffered.
1 Who believed the information we conveyed? To whom was Jehovah’s arm revealed? 2. He grew up before him like a tender plant that sprouts in dry ground. He does not have beauty or beauty as we see and desire. 3. He was despised, rejected by men, addicted to addiction, afflicted with disease, and invisible to men. We did not elect him because he was despised. 4. Verily he bore our sicknesses, bore our addictions, and chose us to be whole, afflicted by God, and afflicted. 5. He was wounded by our transgressions, he was crushed by our iniquities, our peaceful chastisement fell upon him, and by his wounds we are healed. 6. We are all like sheep that have gone astray, each one of us has been led to his own path. 7. He was oppressed and afflicted, but he did not open his mouth, as a lamb before the slaughter, or a sheep before its shearer is silent, so he did not open his mouth. 8. He was sold as a judge of injustice; he was sold because of the transgression of my people. He was banished from the land of the living, but who among his generation thought of this? 9. When he died, a grave was appointed for him with the ungodly, he was placed with a rich man, surely he did no injustice, there was no hypocrisy in his mouth. 10. It pleased the Lord to break him, but he gave him disease. As soon as he kicks, his offspring will be seen as a sin offering. He will live long, He was oppressed and oppressed, but he did not open his mouth, like a lamb to the slaughter and a sheep before its shearer is silent, he did not open his mouth. 8. He was sold as a judge of injustice; he was sold because of the transgression of my people. He was banished from the land of the living, but who among his generation thought of this? 9. It pleased the Lord to break him, but he gave him disease. As soon as he kicks, his offspring will be seen as a sin offering. He will live long, Jehovah ‘s purpose will be accomplished through him. 11. He was satisfied with his suffering. My righteous servant bears the sins of the people and acquits many by his experience. 12. Therefore with the great I will divide the milk for him, and with the poor he will divide the spoils. For he was chosen among the transgressors, who laid down his life to die, and interceded for those who rebelled, bearing the sin of many.
1. He does not have the appearance of seeing and aspiring to our religion. First, Christ humbled Himself to take on a weak human body. Here we pray for that beautiful appearance that everyone adores! But the Lord purposely purchased Himself in an unattractive body! “He does not have the appearance that we desire to see him.
2. Christ was rejected by men. In the hour of need His best friends and disciples not only forsook Him, but also declared that they did not know Him! We may also face the same situation from some of our important friends. It happens today and tomorrow. Don’t be surprised. It happened to Christ. It happens to us.
3. He is “Vysanakranthu” (Duhkhakranthu). His whole life is sorrowful. Nowhere is it written that he smiled. Jesus lived in humble condition. As for him our high priest is not unsympathetic to our weaknesses” (Hebrews 4:15).
4. Christ “suffered”. “Trouble” is the companionship of Christ. He begged for food. He bought the stone upside down! Amazing! With this in mind, why do so many “Christians” preach that “come to Christ and He will bless you with money, houses, etc…. all right now, right here.” But the point is, to those who come to Christ and labor with Him for Him, glory and honor in heaven! Do you understand this? There are many abodes in heaven. Who will toil for a few years on earth for eternal glory?”
5. “There was a man who was sick to be seen by men.” Fallen man does not see the inner beauty of Christ. Because all our outward beauty is imperfect, He is “unseen by men”. “Let us not elect him.” We have rejected Him who came to save us! He is the stone we threw away. We turned our faces away when he received his labor for us! Even if he gets the effort, we are not aiming! Don’t be surprised if people don’t look at you when you’re suffering for Christ. This can also happen.
6. “He hath borne our infirmities.” Christ took not only his own sorrows but also ours and carried them to the cross. Are we willing to bear the burdens of others? We bear our burdens with great difficulty. May God give us strength!
7. “He hath borne our iniquities.” Fallen man suffered many sorrows because of sin. Jesus willingly bore our sorrows. He was not crushed by this responsibility, and Jesus was not overwhelmed by this burden. He endured it until His work was accomplished. Meditate well on what it means for Jesus to bear our sorrows. Lord, have more compassion for the afflicted!
8. “He who is afflicted by God.” The wrath of a holy God was poured out on Christ to punish our sin. When Christ saves us He doesn’t actually save us from our sin, He saves us from God’s wrath! In all his wrath God took his own Son. Father beats his only son. He beat his beloved son! The wrath we deserve fell on Christ. What was the last time we were terribly damaged for each other?
9. He is “the whole.” Every imaginable accusation was leveled at Jesus. Everything is a lie! He was beaten inside and outside. We have to eat those blows!
10. “He was wounded for our transgressions.” Because Christ was made sin for us, He suffered the penalty that sin brought upon Him. He has taken to his side the tide that we need to hit! God saved Abraham’s son from the flood, but He did not save His only begotten Son from the flood.
11. “He was broken for our transgressions.” Jesus had thorns in his crown. The nails landed in his feet. The whole body is injured from head to foot! They are all our wounds. He took the beatings we should have received from His Father! But he never committed any sin!
12. “On him fell the punishment of our peace.” The punishment Christ received. Got us a vital answer! It is said that a dog can’t shake his right hand. Speaking of soul connection, our Creator and our Redeemer has prepared for us a feast beyond feasts, that we may never hunger, but we gnaw our tongue.
13 “By his stripes we are healed.” What is mentioned here is spiritual healing! Christ, primarily, heals us from the disease of sin. By the wounds of Christ, by His shed blood, we are fully healed. Because of Christ’s wounds, God sees us as if we had never sinned.
14. “Jehovah lays on him the iniquity of us all.” Only God has the authority to impute our sins to Christ. We have sinned against our holy God. Therefore only God can determine the punishment for our sin. No man can live a holy life, so God sent his holy Son to be a holy man.
15. “He took tyranny.” Christ was appointed by God to be our sin bearer! And why do we, sinful people, try to be acceptable to God by subjecting ourselves to many oppressions (tyrannies) related to self-interest (self-sacrifice)? God will never accept a bribe for our righteous deeds! He took tyranny for our salvation. If we can do any righteous work acceptable to God, then Christ’s tyranny is unnecessary. He used to stay in heaven.
16. “A lamb to the slaughter.” In many slaughterhouses where lambs are slaughtered, a Judah lamb is used. It leads the goats from the front on the narrow path to the intermediate state. But from the small gate in front of the place of slaughter it goes aside. Jesus was the Lamb of God to be led by the Lamb of Judah. Even though Christ knew how he would be killed, he went willingly. Christ, indeed, became the Holy Lamb who took away the sins of the world.
17 “As a sheep is silent before its shearer, he did not open his mouth.” Christ suffered so much for us, His mouth was not opened, and the hands of the shearers did not wrestle. What a pitiful contrast to the anger and resentment we react to when people accuse us of harming them!
18. “He who received an unjust judgment was bought.” Our sin can be wiped away if we accept Christ, the righteous one who is God’s merciful gift for our sin. In this sense we are no longer under the curse of the law.
19. “He was cast out from the land of the living.” Jesus was cut off like a branch so that we could be grafted into the tree of life. As the seed dies before it can be given life, so Jesus died to give life.
20. “A grave was appointed for him with the ungodly.” Adam’s disobedience in the Garden of Eden earned us all a place in the grave. Because the wages of sin is death, Romans 6:23, Jesus had to die – He was not sin, but He bore our punishment for our sin.
21. “He laid down his life as if he had died.” Why did Jesus say, “When you see that he will lay down his life to death, think about Leviticus 17:11. “Blood is the life of the body. I have given it to you to pour on the altar to make atonement for you. The blood makes atonement for the life in it,” says Leviticus. Is there anything more pure and powerful than the blood of Christ?
22. “He is chosen among the transgressors.” Jesus humbled himself to be in the midst of terrible murderers and thieves. Consider how Jesus released Barabbas, the traitor, murderer, thief, as his appointed executioner! If Christ died in our place, we too will be freed from eternal death, just as Barabbas was freed from prison! Thus Jesus was chosen among the transgressors to intercede with God for the transgressors. The holy blood of Jesus is crying out for God’s grace, not for every punishment for us vile sinners! Christ is a friend to us publicans and sinners.
23. “Beared the iniquities of the people.” Many of the sins of the people were placed on an Old Testament sacrificial animal and killed outside the city. Likewise, Christ was appointed by God to bear the sins of the caste.
24. “He raised himself with the tree on which he was crucified.” Jesus, the creator of all living beings, knew the tree that would crucify him and he grew it. That’s how deeply He planned our redemption.
25 Then he carried the tree to Calvary. After planting the tree, Jesus carried the tree to his death. How perfect is God’s saving grace!
26. Look at the bruised and bloody face of Jesus Christ! Are these terrible blows for you? Do you enjoy your pleasure so much in sin? Did Christ just die or die for you personally? If Christ Himself had not died for you it would have remained a mere historical fact. If Christ’s death is glorified as personal to us, it makes us worthy of hellfire and punishment. God sacrificed His Son for me.
