Kan Sri Lanka nie papier koop as gevolg van MCC-verwerping nie? Die Nepalese Kongres het gesê: Gelukkig is dit anders betyds geslaag.

staar, sy skooleksamens gekanselleer het weens ‘n gebrek aan dollars. Volgens die internasionale media is die skooleksamen wat vanjaar van Maandag af gaan begin onbepaald uitgestel.

Volgens ‘n berig in Indië se The Hindustan Times het Sri Lanka skooleksamens onbepaald uitgestel weens ‘n gebrek aan papierwerk. Die eksamen was geskeduleer vir een week vanaf hierdie Maandag.

Sri Lanka, wat sy ergste ekonomiese krisis sedert onafhanklikwording in 1948 in die gesig staar, het sy eksamens uitgestel weens ‘n gebrek aan dollars om skoolvraestelle te koop, sê onderwysbeamptes.

Hierdie besluit het die eksamens van miljoene Sri Lankaanse studente beïnvloed. Hierdie besluit sal die eksamen van sowat twee derdes van die 4,5 miljoen studente verhoed. Hierdie eksamen is ‘n basis om te evalueer of ‘n student aan die einde van die jaar na die volgende klas bevorder kan word.

Die swak ekonomiese krisis wat veroorsaak word deur die gebrek aan buitelandse valutareserwes vir noodsaaklike invoer het gelei tot ‘n tekort aan voedsel, brandstof en medisyne in Sri Lanka. As gevolg van hierdie situasie kan die Internasionale Monetêre Fonds ‘n reddingsboei soek om Sri Lanka se verslegtende buitelandse skuldkrisis op te los en eksterne reserwes te vergroot. Die fonds oorweeg Woensdag se verrassende versoek van president Gotabaya Rajapaksa om die reddingsboei te bespreek.

Intussen het leiers van die Nepalese kongres opgemerk dat die situasie in Sri Lanka te wyte is aan die feit dat die Amerikaanse hulpprojek MCC nie geslaag is nie. Bhupendra Jung Shahi, sentrale hoofsekretaris van Nepal Tarun Dal, ‘n susterorganisasie van die Nepalese Kongres, het ‘n onderskrif geskryf oor die toestand van Sri Lanka, wat baie nasionalisties geword het deur MCC te verwerp.

Volgens bronne het ander invloedryke sentrale leiers van die Kongres ook gesê dat die situasie in Nepal soortgelyk aan dié in Sri Lanka sou gewees het as die MCC geweier het.
