The terrifying lies the enemy wants you to believe (and how to counter them)
Faith and trust are powerful entities that help people develop a deeper relationship with God. But the enemy, whom the Bible refers to as “the wicked one” (7:1) and “the false accuser” (Revelation 12:10), is always trying to deceive us. The enemy sometimes uses lies to distract us from God’s true way. Such lies are an attempt to interfere with faith and trust. In this article, we will discuss some of the most dangerous lies the enemy wants us to believe and how we can counteract them.
1️⃣ “You are not worthy of God” – Lack of confidence
📖 “You have all sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” – Romans 3:23
The enemy can plant the lie in our minds that we are not worthy of God’s love and forgiveness. We have sinned and because of that God does not want to be with us. This is a terrible lie , because the Bible clearly states that we are all sinners, but God’s love and forgiveness are always available to us.
How to counter:
To counteract this lie, we must say: “I am worthy of God’s love, and I am truly forgiven.” The death and resurrection of Christ have provided us with mercy and forgiveness . Jesus gave his life to save us, and so we are included in God’s grace and love.
2️⃣ “God has abandoned you because of the difficulties of life” – Loneliness and despair
📖 “For I will never leave you nor forsake you.” – Hebrews 13:5
The enemy can promote the lie that we are alone and abandoned in our relationship with God. Life’s difficulties, crises, and sorrows can make us feel as if God has quietly abandoned our lives.
How to counter:
We need to believe that “God is with me and He will never leave me.” Jesus said, “I will never leave you” and His presence is always present in our lives. These words strengthen our spiritual patience and faith . We are with God, no matter what the situation.
3️⃣ “You can’t change now” – a sense of permanence
📖 “If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17
The enemy can repeatedly bring up our past mistakes and sins in our minds , creating the illusion that we cannot change. We may sometimes feel that we are stuck in the same place and cannot live our lives as God intended.
How to counter:
What we need to remember is that Jesus Christ has made us new creatures . We have been born again and change has become a part of our lives. We need to pray and strengthen our faith to be remade according to God’s will.
4️⃣ “You have no purpose” – Purpose and direction of life
📖 “I have plans for you to give you a future and a hope.” – Jeremiah 29:11
The enemy wants us to believe the lie that there is no purpose in our lives and that we are living life in a chaotic and aimless way. This situation makes us feel frustrated and discouraged .
How to counter:
God’s plan for us is amazing and we are built for a purpose in life . We need to believe that our lives have a higher purpose and God’s will , which gives us the ability to make an impact in different areas of life . God wants to develop and use us .
5️⃣ “You cannot forgive your sins” – The guilt of sin and the lack of forgiveness
📖 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us.” – 1 John 1:9
The enemy plants the lie in our hearts that we cannot be forgiven for the sins we have committed. The guilt of sin makes us feel difficult, ashamed, and guilty .
How to counter:
We need to remember that Jesus has forgiven us of all our sins . When we confess our sins , He is ready to bring about a change in our hearts . We need to believe in and accept God’s forgiveness and grace .
conclusion:
The enemy uses lies to undermine our faith and destroy our relationship with God. To counter these lies, we need to accept the truth based on God’s Word in our mind, soul, and heart. We must always remember that God is with us and that in His truth we are strong, secure, and transformed. We can trust that the enemy’s lies can be defeated with God’s truth.
