The topic of dinosaurs in the Bible has been part of
a larger ongoing debate within the Christian community throughout the ages, the correct interpretation of Genesis, and how to interpret the evidence we find around us. Those who believe in an ancient earth age hold that the Bible says nothing about dinosaurs because, according to their paradigm, the dinosaurs died out millions of years ago, or before the first man, Adam, set foot on this earth. Even the writers of the Bible could not see living dinosaurs.
Believers in the new earth age believe that the Bible mentions dinosaurs, although the Bible never uses the word “dinosaur”. Instead, the Hebrew uses the word “taniyen,” which our English Bibles invert slightly differently. In one place it is called a “giant sea beast”, and in another a “serpent”. Its most common reverse is “dragon”. Taniyen looked like some kind of giant reptile. In the Old Testament, these animals are mentioned about 30 times and they are found in both water and land.
In addition to mentioning this giant reptile, the Bible describes a pair of animals in such a way that some Bible scholars believe that the authors may have been describing dinosaurs. Behemoth is said to be the most powerful of all God’s creations, with a tail as hard as a cedar tree (Job 40:15-16). Some scholars have tried to identify Behemoth as elephant or water-rhinoceros. while others say that elephants and water-rhinoceros have very thick tails, which cannot be compared to a cedar tree. On the other hand, dinosaurs like Brachiosaurus and Diplodocus had massive tails that could be compared to a cedar tree.
Almost every ancient civilization has some form of art depicting giant reptiles. Rock paintings, artifacts, and even small clay figurines depicting modern dinosaurs have been found in North America. Rock carvings in South America included depictions of humans riding on animals such as Diplodocus, and, surprisingly, depictions of riding animals like Triceratops and Pterodactyl and Tyrannosaurus Rex. Roman paintings, Mayan pottery, the city walls of Babylon, all attest to man’s cultural, geographical, and unlimited fascination with these animals. Serious details, such as Marco Polo’s 11 million, also bear witness to Dante’s tales of animals and burials. In addition to the considerable amount of historical and human-animal evidence for the coexistence of humans and dinosaurs, there is other physical evidence,
So are there dinosaurs in the Bible? This issue is very difficult to decide. It depends on how we interpret the available evidence and how we view the world around us. If the Bible is a true inversion, we believe in a New Earth inversion and assume that dinosaurs and humans co-existed together. If dinosaurs and humans co-existed together, what happened to those dinosaurs? While the Bible doesn’t discuss the matter, dinosaurs were wiped out shortly after the Flood due to a coincidence of dramatic environmental changes, and the truth is that they were hunted by humans to ruthless extinction.
