Good Morning!!! – Daily Devotional
Refusal to defend
(Acts 7:54-60)
- Stephen, a deacon in the book of Acts and the first believer to die a martyr’s death, provides the most shocking example of non-defense. A believer who was completely filled with the Holy Spirit, who never needed to defend his faith.
Truth is never challenged by threats. Only those without faith find it necessary to defend their faith. The way the Holy Spirit works varies and varies, however, defending the truth is never part of it. Truth is progressive because it is rooted in life. The truth is progressively revealed through the corporate body of Christ and assures us of the life we have been given. It is unnecessary for us to protect the life of Christ.
Believers filled with faith can confront what is being attacked with the truth of life they have. Despite Stephen’s opportunity to defend himself, he cornered defense and assumed the sword of the Holy Spirit. The speed of truth which he presented cost him his life, but it was of no consequence to him, for, through his plight, he always looked to the living.
When you express your refusal to defend your faith, you open the door through which the Holy Spirit’s determination and power of love can flow.
Stand up for what you refuse to defend. Never answer Satan’s questions. Run away with the Lord’s sword. Attacks can be defeated but not by defense, but by counter-attacks. Don’t be aggressive in presenting your truth. Either you are in the truth that is completely true, or you are not in it completely. - Today’s Bible reading is Genesis 40-42
