Jayamsih! Welcome to today’s devotion.
Let your eyes be on perfection.
- 1 Samuel 16:7 / Colossians 1:19
David’s heart was set (Psalms 57:7/108:1), not on things that looked good, but on what was truly perfect, righteous, and holy. Someone’s expression may be beautiful in the face, and the way they behave towards the life they live may be beautiful, but on whom their eyes are fixed determines the life they express.
The Lord clearly tells Samuel not to look at the face or stature (1 Samuel 16:7), because the Lord looks at the heart. When your heart is set in peace, then the Lord looks up to the order of His own heart. When your heart is set in perfect righteousness, then the Lord will see to your care (Isaiah 59:16). When your heart is set on holiness, then the Lord will see what He has made you by grace.
If you turn your eye to one side, it will be filled with light so that even in the darkness it will reveal what stands against you. When your eyes are fixed on perfection, then the life you deserve is made of everything that the Son is. By seeing the fullness of that which the Father invested, which is now in the body of Christ, we are molded into his image (Ephesians 1:23).
Through the blood we have been reconciled to ‘Him in whom all fullness dwells’ (Colossians 1:20/Ephesians 2:13). Every area of our lives will reap a fruitful harvest, and we look to the fullness of Him who fills all in all.
