Obstacles To Prayer
Best 10 Effective Ways To Overcome Them
Prayer is an integral part of our spiritual life. Through it, we communicate with God, expressing our heart’s feelings, gratitude, and prayers. But there are many obstacles that can come in the way of prayer that can hinder our relationship with God. There are some important steps to overcome these obstacles. In this article, we will discuss the major obstacles to prayer and 10 effective ways to overcome them.
1. Not atoning for the crime
The greatest obstacle to prayer is sin. When we do not confess our sins, our relationship with God is damaged. Psalm 66:18 says:
“If I regard sin in my heart, the Lord will not remember me.”
By atoning for the offense, restore your relationship with God and pray effectively.
2. Pray with faith.
Faith is the power of prayer. James 1:6-7 says,
“When you ask, ask in faith, with no doubting.”
When we doubt, our prayers are hindered. Have faith in God’s Word and rely on His promises. Praying with faith makes our prayers powerful.
3. Stay away from eccentricity .
Distraction is a big obstacle to prayer. Our busy lifestyles, phones, and other responsibilities divide our attention. Set aside a specific time and place to pray. Go to a secluded place, turn off your phone, and talk to God with full attention.
4. Forgive others.
Another obstacle to prayer is guilt. Mark 11:25 says:
“When you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against anyone, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.”
Forgive your grudges and resentments toward others and open your prayers.
5. Pray according to God’s will
How many prayers do we pray contrary to God’s will? 1 John 5:14 says:
“This is what we have in mind when we ask God for, that we may ask according to his will.”
When we pray according to God’s will, our prayers have clarity and powerful effect.
6. Be patient in prayer.
Sometimes we may not get immediate answers when we pray. Luke 18:1-8 highlights the importance of persistence and patience.
Be patient and faithful in every prayer, as this will strengthen your relationship with God.
7. Pray with a humble heart
Pride is a great obstacle to prayer. 2 Chronicles 7:14 says:
“If my people humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and forgive their sin.”
Go humbly before God and give Him everything you have.
8. Seek the help of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is our helper in prayer. Romans 8:26 says:
“The Spirit also helps us in our weakness; for we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with intercession.”
If you do not know what to pray for, seek guidance from the Holy Spirit. His help will direct your prayers.
9. Pray with gratitude.
A lack of gratitude in prayer often leads to obstacles. Philippians 4:6 says:
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving present your requests to God.”
When we pray with thanksgiving and gratitude, God’s grace and guidance become evident in our lives.
10. Wait for God’s timing.
Sometimes we expect an immediate answer to our prayers, but God’s timing is the best. Isaiah 40:31 says,
“But those who wait for the Lord will renew their strength.”
Be patient in praying in God’s timing and wait for His perfect timing. He will always be true to His timing and plan.

This really answered my problem, thank you!
You really make it seem so easy with your presentation but I find this topic to be actually something that I think I would never understand. It seems too complex and extremely broad for me. I am looking forward for your next post, I will try to get the hang of it!
