SOTERIOLOGY – Salvation: The Ultimate Truth of Salvation
Soteriology is the study of salvation — the path to understanding the deep mysteries of God’s grace, the cross of Jesus, forgiveness of sins, new life, and eternal salvation. A complete guide based on the Bible.
✝️ 1. What is Soteriology?
Soteriology is derived from the Greek words:
- “Soter” (σωτήρ) – Savior
- “Logos” (λόγος) – study / word / knowledge
This means — the study of the doctrine of salvation .
It is a deep study of the salvation achieved through Jesus Christ, its nature, necessity, process, effect, and ultimate outcome.
2. Why is Soteriology important?
- The eternal life of man raises the question: “How do I find salvation?”
- The gospel is incomplete without a correct understanding of salvation.
- True liberation scripture is essential to avoid false teachings.
- The truth of salvation changes lives—today and for eternity.
3. The Need for Salvation – The Condition of Man
A. Fallen mankind
- Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
- Human nature itself inclines towards sin.
- The consequence of sin is death (physical, spiritual, and eternal – Romans 6:23 ).
B. Salvation is not possible through man’s own efforts.
- Works, religion, and traditions do not bring salvation ( Eph 2:8–9 )
- Salvation is possible only through grace and faith.
4. The Origin of Salvation – God’s Plan
A. The plan of salvation was determined from time immemorial.
- 1 Peter 1:20 – Jesus was chosen to be a sacrifice before the foundation of the world.
- God loved the world ( John 3:16 )
B. Salvation completed on the cross
- The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ opened the door to salvation.
- John 19:30 – “It is finished.” – The work of salvation is complete.
5. The Process of Salvation – How to Receive Salvation?
A. Repentance
- Confess your sin and turn to God.
- Acts 3:19 – “Repent and turn… so that your sins may be blotted out.”
B. Faith
- Trusting in Jesus as your personal Savior.
- Romans 10:9–10 – “If you confess with your mouth that Christ Jesus is Lord… you will be saved.”
C. New Birth
- Entry into new life through the Spirit ( John 3:3 )
6. Elements of Salvation
7. Is salvation once or forever?
A. True salvation is everlasting (Perseverance of the Saints)
- Philippians 1:6 – “He will complete the work he began.”
B. But it is necessary to remain steadfast in the faith.
- Honest living and spiritual growth are essential ( Hebrews 3:14 )
8. Fruits of Salvation
- Peace and joy (Romans 5:1)
- The indwelling of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor 6:19)
- New life (2 Cor 5:17)
- The guarantee of eternal life (1 John 5:13)
- The desire to preach the gospel
9. False Views of Salvation
10. Conclusion: Salvation – God’s Wonderful Gift
Salvation is not a religious process, it is the beginning of a new life in Jesus Christ
. It is not just literal knowledge, it is an experience – a journey of transformation, love, holiness, and eternal hope.

What does the Bible teach about salvation?
-This is a very important topic and the main theme of the Bible is salvation.
It is very important and essential for all people and believers to know and understand this.
Acts 16:30 – 30 verses – “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”
Let’s study this topic and this class will be an introductory class on this topic.
We will study this topic for 9-10 classes.
Let’s remember the previous classes..
God created man in His own image.
Man sinned.
The background of the human scripture or human scripture and the scripture of sin is very important.
You and I are sinners (Romans 3:23-5 chapters)
The state of being unable to save ourselves. (Ephesians 2:1-3)
Remaining in this state..deserving of judgment, punishment and hell (this is the most pitiful state of man).
The most important verse in the Bible – John 3:16 (the only known passage in all the books of the world).
The meaning of the verse is
1) God
2) The world – the entire human race or all people
3) Love
4) The only Son given
5) Faith
6) Life
7) Destruction

God has an eternal plan of salvation.
Some important verses…..
(Revelation 13:8 1 Peter 1:20 Hebrews 4:3)
Jesus’ sacrifice is the center of all creation.
Jesus came into this world …God ÷ Man ..
– The Savior The only Savior
Perfect, spotless, perfect blood – which is the only price for sin.
Salvation Scripture
In Greek, for salvation – comes from kytavchashyal.
Mainly in the Bible this word means – to save from judgment and sin.
Only by the only Savior (kytavcha)
Other meanings of this word are – to make whole
To rescue from any danger
It also means to deliver from sickness and evil spirits. (Luke 8:36, Matthew 9:21-22)
The word “save” is used 107 times in the New Testament.
The word “salvation” is used 45 times in the New Testament.
It refers to salvation or deliverance. (Romans 1:16, 10:1, Ephesians 1:13)
“to deliver, to save, to deliver. (Luke 2:30, 3:6, Ephesians 6:17, Titus 2:11)
The Hebrew word “thvkjab” (words for the names of Jesus and Joshua)
It refers to effective deliverance and freedom from obstacles/bindings.
When we study the subject of salvation,
it is important to know these “3 only” (D ilathi)
1) Only Christ (the Lord Jesus Christ) is the only one who can save us
2) Only grace (freely available salvation) 3) Faith alone (the means of salvation
)
This is something that everyone needs to know and we are looking at in the introduction to salvation.
1) Christ alone (the only one)
Only Christ can save.
And He wants to.
No one else can save except Christ and there is no salvation in anyone else…. Acts
4:10-12
Verse 12 declares that – there is no other name given in heaven or on earth….. but Jesus Christ….
1 Timothy 2:4-5 – The only “mediator” is Jesus.
Between God and man
John 3:16 – The only Son
There is no other 7 Philippians
2:9-11 – Who is above every name.
Every knee should bow.
Jesus Christ is Lord.
1 Thess. 5:9 ÷ Romans 1:16 ÷ Romans 5:12-21 ÷ Colossians 1:20 ÷ 1 Corinthians 2:2 ÷ Galatians 1:6-10 – There is no other gospel.
Luke 1:19 – The horn of salvation (66 verses)
1) Simeon looks at the baby Jesus and says in Luke 2:30 – For my eyes have seen your “salvation.”
There is salvation only in Jesus Christ. No one else can take you to heaven.
In John 14:6 Jesus says – I am the way, the truth, and the life: “No one comes to the Father except through me.”
He alone conquered death… He is the only Savior. Only Christ can take us to heaven.
Jesus – the Son of God – (Jesus) – is the Savior.
That is why it must be preached to the ends of the earth. (Matthew –28:18-20)
2) Grace alone – Grace alone
(KJV) Father Stephen has written a book called Grace alone.
One very important verse – “By grace you have been saved” – Ephesians 2:8
“By grace you have been saved” – verse 5
The general meaning of grace – “a free gift”
“God gives us what we do not deserve”.
God “gives us salvation” in Christ, including heaven, eternal life – which we did not deserve. Salvation is also by “grace” – we cannot earn it.
We cannot make ourselves worthy.
Total – corruption is real.
Christ did it all, now freely available to us.
Titus 2:11 – For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men,. Verse 11
It continues… even after salvation (verse 12)
1 Peter 1:1 – The whole Bible preaches about “grace”.
And that salvation, the grace that comes, is preached about Christ in verse 11… “The key verse” is
that salvation is freely available to all by grace because of the work of Christ… (Religions and orthodoxy and superstition may not be able to grasp this truth).
Acts 15:11 – But we believe: the conclusion of the Jerusalem Council, the apostles, the entire church history.
By the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we will be saved, just as they were.
Both… Gentiles and Jews and all mankind.
(Another passage is Acts 18:27-28 which is also a very good passage)
Another verse to read is Romans 11:6
Not by works (we will explain this in later lessons) Romans 3:24, Romans 5:15, 16, 18, 20, 21…. Grace repeatedly
Romans 4:16
Another good passage is 2 Timothy 1:9-10 (we find other passages in the Bible establishing this).
3) Faith alone – a gift of grace
We accept that grace by faith.
We lay hands, receive the gift but it is a gift… we do nothing.
There is free will….
Over 150 New Testament passages mention salvation by “faith”.
We will study this in more depth in later lessons.
But this should be taken from this lesson.
Salvation is only in Christ
By grace alone (freely)
By faith alone (we accept
We trust or accept only in Jesus.
Acceptance is not a work… At first it may seem like a work but later we kneel down… It is all because of you…Jesus..
Important Terms to Know for Salvation
Justification
Sanctification
Glorification
Adoption
Election
Redemption
Atonement
Reconciliation
New Birth
Substitution (Atonement)
Eternal Security
Eternal Assurance
Eternal Life
Other Vocabulary…
We will study these subjects thoroughly in these classes.
In today’s class we will continue this wonderful topic “Salvation.”
Salvation before and after the cross
In the last class we saw that Revelation 13:8 and other verses that tell us that “the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world”
had already completed the work of salvation in God’s eternal plan, but at one time “Galatians 4:4” Jesus came and completed the work of salvation on the cross.. “which work is an eternal work that happened at a specific time.
(By grace and by faith in all ages)
Finished work
We use two main terms in Greater Grace.
1) Grace – which we studied in the previous class.
2) Finished work – this is what we will look at in today’s class.
Key passage John 19:30 – “It is finished”
Jesus said seven words on the cross.. which are known as the “Seven Sayings” of Jesus.
This is the sixth of the seven sayings, “It is finished.”
John 6:63 .. The words I speak are “spirit and life.”
Matthew 5:18 …every word; even “earned” is important.
What Jesus Christ did on the cross… is something every believer should know.
Someone said it and it is true.
“In the cross we can see all the character, attributes and natures of God.” “
Without the work of the cross, the other signs and miracles of Jesus are meaningless.
“Now that the work is finished, other teachings seem very simple.”
John 19:30 “It is finished” The correct translation is “It is now finished or accomplished.”
1) First of all, “Jesus went to the cross for someone else or for a reason.”
And this is for all people “which is called the doctrine of substitution. Substitutionary Atonement ..
2 Corinthians 5:21 – “For us”
He or Jesus died not for himself but to fulfill the Father’s plan and for us.
He died in our place…or in the place where we should have died.
In short, “He died in our place and at the same time He lives for us.”
When Christ died, “He died in our place.”
“He took the punishment for our sins.”
“He paid the price for our sins.”
And He satisfied God’s judgment.
John 1:29 ÷ 2 Corinthians 5:21 ÷ 1 John 4:10 For us (sins)…
He took our sins, crucifying the old sinful nature.
We also died with Christ and now live with Him.
Now Christ lives in us, through us.
And we too walk in that newness of life. (Romans 6:4 ÷ Galatians 2:20)
But we are studying “the finished work.”
The Greek word used is “tetelestai.” The word “teves” is used.
Which generally means “to complete, to pay, to do, to complete”.
When we look at the ancient usage of this word,
it is a word related to and used in “accounting” or “accounting book” or “accounting book”.
If “someone” takes a loan from someone … a bond is made.
If the money is traded on this day at an interest rate.
Perhaps the time period was fixed for 1 year and a bond is made.
After a year, the borrower .. the lender comes and says … Here I have brought all the principal and interest.
Then it was written as telio or tetelestai.
Which means “paid in full or done”.
Just like the bill is written … (in a picture, in any work)
It means that there is no more transaction left.
And there is no need to add or subtract to it … Similarly, the work of Jesus
The same reason and the same words Jesus cried out with a loud voice on the cross and said …
Meaning (1) For the sins and transgressions of all mankind.
(2) He or Christ shed His actual blood and died.
(3) Jesus did all the work necessary to reconcile man to God.
(4) Now, the only requirement for that reconciliation is that each person believe in Christ and His work.
(John 19:13,30 Hebrews 9:26,28 ÷ 1 Peter 2:24) Along with Isaiah 53
He paid the full price for the sins of mankind…
Now.. There are three important words to know to understand this finished work.
1) Redemption
2) Reconciliation
3) Atonement.. .
1) Redemption …This is a very important word to understand the finished work.
There are many words used in the Greek New Testament, but these two words are mainly important to know.
1) ἐγατυκακήκη – means to redeem, to save. (Luke 1:68, 2:38 ÷ Hebrews 9:12)
To redeem, to set free or set free by paying a ransom.
To pay the full price required or stipulated for redemption.
2) Redemption – to set free, to deliver, to rescue (Luke 21:88 ÷ Hebrews 9:15, 11:35 ÷ Romans 3:34, 8:23 ÷ 1 Corinthians 1:30 ÷ Ephesians 1:7, 14, 4:30 ÷ Colossians 1:14)
To buy a slave who was sold in a market
To pay the full price required
And to set free, to free, to rescue…
We were also slaves and were sold…
Think about it, a slave who was sold was being paid a price or was being bought.
This was practiced in the ancient world and also until the 19th century.
We were slaves to sin, to the devil, to the world, to darkness, to superstition, to wickedness, to lawlessness, to unrighteousness, to lust, to the old sinful nature…etc.
And our account was being held..to hellish slavery..
But Christ came – to the world in the marketplace of slavery
He paid the price – “blood”
This price was offered to God.
And He set us free.
We have been turned from darkness to light (Ephesians 5:8, 1 Thessalonians 5:5, Colossians 1:13)
Romans 3:24 – The reason for redemption (1 Corinthians 1:30 ÷ Ephesians 1:7 ÷ Colossians 1:14 ÷ Hebrews 9:15 …
Now, we are free and subject to Him.
We willingly become His servants. (Exodus 21:1-6 Deuteronomy 15:16-17 Pierce the ear of a slave (interpretation needed) Other words used for redemption, भहबनयचबथाय – to redeem, to buy back (Galatians 3:13, 4:5 Ephesians 5:16, Colossians 4: 5
) भिगटचय The reason…the cross… We have eternal life and we are now citizens of heaven. Another word… “reconciliation” 2 Corinthians 5:18 – 2 times “reconciliation” 2 Corinthians 5:18 – 2 times the word “reconciliation” Through Christ he has reconciled us to himself. He has given us the ministry of reconciliation. 2 Corinthians 5:19 – 2 times the word “reconciliation” God was in Christ reconciling the world to himself. He has entrusted to us the word of reconciliation. Verse 20 – We are ambassadors… and we speak to others as reconciled. Reconciliation (pbatabivikaya) concept – We were enemies of God. Romans 5:10-11 The law of reconciliation is for the purpose of reconciliation We ourselves were enemies of God. Because of sin and corruption But God sent His Son… meaning He extended the hand of friendship. Christ erased that gap of enmity on the cross. He destroyed what had made us enemies (sin, evil) and reconciled us to God… Remember…. We have heard that Not a changed life but a life of exchange or a life of exchange… Christ’s life has become mine and I cannot live in Him and I without Him – Galatians 2:20) This is what the word reconciliation or reconciliation means. This has been made possible by the work of Christ… This ministry is with us…. 2 Corinthians 5:18-20, Romans 5:10, 1 Corinthians 7:11 Because of the work that Christ completed on the cross, man’s condition or relationship with God has completely changed. Man has been reconciled to God. (Even more so with God’s people) Man has been completely changed by God, but God has not changed in his relationship with man. The state of enmity has been completely changed by the work of Christ. And Man is now a new creation. That word and ministry of reconciliation has also been given to us now… Another important word is “atonement.”
The wrath of God is kindled against all ungodliness and unrighteousness. (Romans 1:18) This is real
It is under God’s judgment and is fallen.
No one can escape that punishment.
Romans 1:18 – Man is getting deeper and deeper in depravity.
Knowing this…
But “propitiation” –
the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross has satisfied God’s wrath and Christ has appeased it.
1 John 2:2, 4:30, Hebrews 2:17
Jesus has satisfied God’s satisfaction.
– That is by His death.
By His presentation
He has presented or offered His blood on the mercy seat in heaven.
Therefore, the demands of God’s holiness against sin have been fully met by the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and God is satisfied by the sacrifice of Christ.
In the Old Testament there was a Day of Atonement…(Leviticus 16:8-34, Leviticus 23:26-32, Numbers 29:7-11, Acts 27:9)
(1) Two goats (Leviticus 16:7)
(a) One was to be released by lot…sent into the wilderness…laid on his hand…and took away our sins.
– This is a picture of Christ…Jesus took our sins and carried them as far as the east and the west… (Psalm 103:12)
He will never remember our sins because of the atonement – Jeremiah 31:34, Hebrews 8:12)
(b) Another sacrifice – Jesus was also sacrificed as atonement…
In Leviticus 16:15 – the blood
was poured out on the mercy seat – First Christ died to fulfill God’s plan. A.T.E
Christ satisfied God’s righteous demands by sprinkling His blood on the mercy seat… God’s wrath was appeased.
Mercy – sprinkled before the mercy seat – and now Christ died for men and made atonement.
This is the Atonement or Atonement
Jesus paid the price of sin in full… for men.
Now… Therefore – Romans 5:1-2 Man has direct access to God.
Prayer, fellowship, the gospel, everything is beautiful.
The book of Hebrews explains.
Read in the Pentateuch.
We will see later…..
(And on the unbelievers there will be wrath and will be in hell).
The word atonement is used – in 1 John 2:2, 4:10, Luke 18:13
which refers to the mercy seat.
Now we are people of mercy.
So…. Three important words of the finished work…
(1) Redemption – Sin has been dealt with…
(2) Reconciliation – Man has been dealt with…
(3) Atonement – God’s wrath has been appeased… ( 4)
For whom did Jesus die?…
(5) Limited Atonement – He died only for those who believe.
2) Unlimited Atonement – He died for all mankind.
He died for all believers and all unbelievers.
Now… tell me which is true…??? And why???
– There are some teachings that say that Jesus died only for believers or only for believers (Ephesians 1:4-5:15,25-1 Corinthians 15:3-John 5:21-6:37-17:9)
This is called limited atonement (ṛṣṭṭabham bṭayelzhāvālat). But that is not biblical…
The Bible is “unlimited atonement” and we believe in it.
Isaiah 53:6 for the iniquity of all.
John 3:16 He gave His Son for the world.
2 Peter 3:9 and 1 Timothy 2:4 Jesus wants everyone to be saved.
1 John 2:2 He atoned for all.
John 1:29 John the Baptist says, “The Lamb that taketh away the sin of the world”
John 16:8 The Holy Spirit convicts the world of sin.
(John 12:47-Romans 5:6) Christ died for the unrighteous.
Other verses – (2 Corinthians 5:14-19, 1 Timothy 2:3-4, 6, 4:10 Romans 5:18-19, Hebrews 2:9, 1 Peter 2:1)
Now we know that Jesus died for everyone.
Why do unbelievers go to hell?
1) God is just.
2) Man’s choice (main)
3) The sin of unbelief… Not believing in Jesus
4) A place in hell is prepared according to works…
That is why the gospel must be preached.
It must be believed.
But… salvation in Christ was and is available to all… all we have to do is accept it…. Help.

We are studying the subject of salvation.
Now what is a believer set free from?
1) From the penalty of sin – saved from past sins.
Immediately upon believing in Jesus Christ (the moment one accepts Jesus Christ as personal Savior).
Believers in Christ are set free, delivered, or saved from the consequences or punishment or wages of sin and from the guilt of sin. (1 Peter 2:24) It
is very important for us to know one word and that is “justification and justification.”
What does it mean to justify?
This is a biblical word that is very important to know. We can see in verses such as Romans 4:25, 5:18… (The word righteousness or justification is used).
Justification (Mspavashyakashka) – to declare or declare righteous, to justify, to justify.
God declares a person righteous at the moment he believes in what Christ has done and accepts it.
(Justification) (Romans 2:26, 8:4) All the work necessary for justification was done by Jesus Christ.
The cross, death, burial, resurrection and ascension.
Justification (declaration of righteousness) Romans 3,4,6 ÷ Galatians 2:16, 3:8,11,24, 5 :4
Romans 2:13, 3:4,20,24,26,28,30, 4:2, 5:1,9 6:7 8:30,33 Many others…
This justification means (to prove innocent, to make right and establish, to execute justice, to judge).
But in the New Testament – it is a judicial word – or a legal word).
To pronounce a secure judgment in one’s favor.
To acquit the guilty and that too in a moral sense
(Romans 8:33) To declare righteous.
Romans 3:24 – The book of Romans is a very beautiful book.
Romans 1:18-32 – The entire immoral human race is under sin and judgment.
Romans 2:1-16 – The entire moral human race is under sin and judgment. (Even the morally upright)
Romans 2:17-3:8 The religious and the Jewish are also under sin and judgment.
Romans 3:9-20 In conclusion, all are sinners and under judgment and under wrath.
But from verse 3:21 the path turns and it presents the only way of salvation to the entire human race.
From Romans 3:21 to Romans 5:21 – The doctrine or teaching of justification is taught, so it is necessary to read it together with Galatians 2:11 and chapter 3.
Now let’s look mainly from 3:21 (the book of Romans)
verse 24 is the main one – verse 28 is also the main one.
Justification – God declares us righteous once and for all at the moment of faith. Romans 3:24
1. By His grace: meaning we do not deserve or deserve it.
2. Redemption in Christ Jesus: What Jesus did on Calvary.:
Life, cross, death, burial, resurrection
: Because of Christ alone .
3. Freely
Depends only on the giver, the receiver does nothing.
Freely – We cannot earn it.
Romans 3:28 – Without works we can do nothing.
By faith – we accept, we lay hands on, we say yes.
We have not done anything but have accepted.
The only means …..
Conclusion – Paul’s and all ours
is “justified” – means saved ….
(A judicial word – an example of a court)
Now the believer – the moment he believes is declared righteous once and for all.
The believer is declared righteous and fully accepted by God.
Because of the imputed righteousness ..
Because of the complete work of Christ … is justified freely ….
Read Romans 3:30 … In Romans 4, verses 1-4 and 9-10, Paul establishes that Abraham was also justified by faith.
Read verse 5 … A very good verse Romans 4:6-7 – David also .
