Things behind
Philippians 3:13–14
-
A believer’s life is not based on things that lie behind. The weakness of many is that they live off past successes. The destruction of many is due to living in past failures. As we begin a new year, or as we begin a new day, a new hour, a new moment, now is the time to forget the past. A life in Christ depends solely on a life lived in who Christ is at the same time. A touch from the hand of yesterday’s great success master can start flying from the wings of victory. A large, living church of yesterday may not be so sure of tomorrow. Christ’s standards must be renewed every day.
A foundation of learning and growth is certainly valuable, but if the freshness of Christ is not in what is happening now. A successful life is measured only by the things related to Christ, never by the things achieved. A housewife who serves Christ with her family is more spiritually successful than a lifeless and dry religious leader.
Were you successful yesterday? Thank God if you were. Get fresh from Christ, be successful today, take today’s part of life, now that yesterday will do nothing.
Did you completely fail last year? Forget it and let grace be sufficient for now. If you missed last night’s meal, will you refuse today’s meal for the same reason? - Today’s reading passage is Genesis 1-2
