Welcome to today’s devotion.
God’s Sacrifice Brings Mercy
Matthew 9:9-17
Many people offer sacrifices to God to receive His mercy. There was a time when God made only one sacrifice for sin, to satisfy His holiness. But to satisfy God’s demand for perfect justice, that sacrifice also had to be perfect. One who knows no sin should be sacrificed. Christ’s death in Trumas satisfied God’s demand for perfection. So that unconditional grace can be showered on people.
When we accept Christ’s wages for our sins, we become new creations; Perfect in Him, available for the new life from above. He crucified the old, that we might be made new. Only by acting by faith can we experience His life in the truth of what God has called us to be. New wine cannot be poured into old winepresses without breaking them. A new garment cannot be stitched onto an old garment without tearing. We cannot purify our own vessel by self-sacrifice, to be worthy of God’s grace. We cannot attempt to cling to the concept of redemption in the old garment of our Adamic nature. In order to experience His new life in us, we must accept God’s imputed righteousness towards us.
Are you tired of self-effort and religious efforts? God says: “I desire mercy, not sacrifice.” Come into the throne room of mercy, where the blood is already sprinkled, and the veil of the body is torn away. Come and take a love you don’t deserve; Take a new heart, a new beginning, a new ability to be activated by God Himself.
