Welcome to today’s
devotion.
It seems like you’re asking for an explanation of an article titled “Against Love” based on Proverbs 31:30-31. However, the phrase “Against Love” does not directly align with the message of these verses. Instead, Proverbs 31:30-31 teaches about the true value of a woman, emphasizing that beauty and charm are temporary, but the fear of the Lord is what truly matters.
1. Understanding Proverbs 31:30-31
These verses highlight an important distinction:
- Charm and beauty are deceptive – External attractiveness can fade, and superficial qualities do not define a person’s true worth.
- A woman who fears the Lord is to be praised – True virtue comes from faith, wisdom, and godly character.
- She deserves honor and recognition – Her works and faithfulness should be acknowledged publicly.
2. Does This Passage Speak “Against Love”?
If you are interpreting “Against Love” as a rejection of worldly, superficial love, then yes, Proverbs 31:30-31 teaches that love based purely on physical beauty and charm is unreliable. However, it does not speak against love itself. Instead, it promotes a deeper, godly kind of love that is rooted in faith and character rather than external appearances.
3. The Message for Today
In today’s world, people often prioritize physical beauty, social status, and charm when seeking love. However, this passage reminds us that these things fade away, and what truly matters is a heart devoted to God.

Against Love
- Proverbs 31:30-31
I can give my body, but that is different from my life. Charm is deceitful, a woman’s beauty is vain; But the woman who fears the Lord, that woman will be praised. May the fruit of his hands and his works praise him in the main gates. It is not his beauty, but what he produces in life will praise him. “Leave him alone. Why do you hurt him? She has done a good deed for me.” (Mark 14:6).
Love is deceptive, but love is not. What I do may be charming, but treacherous. God can find people showing love to him day and night until rain. How charming, and how deceptive at the same time. God’s plan must be established in love, so that love will stand in times of recession, when those who established love will be deceived. The beauty of losing everything for the cause can never be combined with that one love that establishes works through Christ. These people do not go beyond the knowledge of good and evil to reveal Christ in times of recession. The only testimony that will pass the test is that which has the quality of unconditional love to manifest something more than a good perseverance. Love goes beyond the fleeting charms of goodness, into the living light of God’s plan for time.
Be faithful to God’s causes by trusting in the Lord in every step you take. Go beyond yourself, without concern for your goodness, manifest works that will commend you to God’s front door. We are proud of the Lord.
