Freed from Neediness
Philippians 4:19
- Many times our inner needs are more different than our emotions tell us what we need. We pray for days and weeks, and God does not give us what we ask for. Of course it gets worse and then we start not trusting in prayer and we start not trusting God because we don’t see the answer. When we live this need, this distrust can creep into our human relationships. If someone doesn’t answer us in a way that doesn’t meet our needs, we don’t trust them.
Why is God not giving you what you want? Why has he allowed you to continue in this pain? More than anything, His children want a crucified God and an identification with His humanity. When this happens, they become his without any demand. We have a choice. When prayers seem unanswered, we either stop trusting God or we allow Him to override other needs by our need for Him to create our true needs.
Have you ever seen a single man who provides all the needs of his children? It doesn’t take long to see us lose interest in those things after a while. God wants us to be grown sons, not spoiled children. He wants us to walk in the mystery of the believer, which allows Him to work in us as a heavenly wonder. A dark example is this: A drunkard prays for wine, but instead of granting his desire, He delivers him from his drunkard. By not fulfilling his worldly desires, God redeemed him for a new life through the mystery of faith.
