Love Can Take It
1 Corinthians 13
- If you are filled with the Spirit, there is nothing you cannot enjoy. If you are not filled with the Spirit, there is nothing you can receive unless you put it in a way that fits your Adam and its nature. God’s love can take it. Because of love, David was able to take it and respect Saul. David was able to call Saul a ruler, that too because of love. When God said, “Give me Isaac,” Abraham was so filled with love that he accepted the command without any reaction. He could bear the discipline of giving his son for the sake of love. If we are filled with the Spirit, (Romans 5:5) and his love can be poured out everywhere, we can take anything because love takes it without giving up, quietly and without reaction. That love can take, which the words of Jesus on the cross reveal – “Father, forgive them” – and Stevenus says when facing death – “Let not this sin be held against them.”
Love can take everything sent by grace. Live by loving others. If redemption was for others and fulfillment means love. A man can live happily for others. The more his circumstances deteriorate, the more he is filled with his inexhaustible resources from God within him.
No one who has already been crucified will ever need anything after that. We can stand tough tests. Because we have experience with the initial test of going to the cross. We can meet the responsibilities of the plan of grace because of the love demanded by our grace’s redemption.
Today’s reading passage is Job 32-34
