Preferring Respect
- 1 Corinthians 12:12-31, Romans 12:10
No matter how close the friendship, and despite the fact that he was of one soul with David, Jonathan always had to respect David as the anointed king. Their intimacy in friendship never removed respect from God’s delegated position. People have certain positions but it does not elevate people. These positions elevate people’s responsibilities, for which plans and objectives are set in individual, own and delegated authority. As we honor the delegated authority for the sake of Christ, so we also honor one another for the sake of Christ. He has established Himself in us, and we respect that life. Honor Christ as we honor one another. Every person is our body, flesh and bones.
When we think of another as our body, we think of the love in his soul, the purpose in his heart, the strength in his face, and the holiness of his life. See them in the holiness of who they are in Christ. God is residing within that body, although that person is not performing according to the highest expectations. How many of us would attack a woman in childbirth? Even before it is born, we honor and respect what is inside. Do not look at others according to the over familiarity of human weakness. Whoever it is, see them as a sacred vessel in which God dwells to manifest eternity in time. If we are truly filled with the Spirit, we will not know another Christian according to the flesh, but our life will be one of divine appreciation.
