Desires Outside of God
- Idols in a Christian life are often 1 no. There is a problem. An idol is not just a physical artistic object placed in front of people for worship. An idol can be a behavior of the heart, which can lead you away from fellowship with a personal Christ. Many people idolize needs, instead of living in the will of God, who would meet all their needs, because they are in Him. For example, a woman wants to get rid of her problems. She wants her husband to change. His desire is idolatry. She lives in an anxious spirit towards his change. It’s fine to want him to change, but not to the point that it becomes a struggle and conflict. For him the motive of his prayer may have been the idolatry found in his own heart. It begins with setting desires in place of God’s will (which is in the perfection of His operation). She wants to make a goal accomplished, bypassing the work of God, and entering into the struggle of the flesh.
Many people want to be healed, but they are not moved in the holiness of faith, so that God can work through the law of love. Healing idolatry stops. It is something they seek, and it is the basis of their communication with God. They want something from God, before God wants them in company! In other words, people have such a desire that it goes beyond their free will to accept the cross for their resurrection grace. They worship desires, instead of delighting themselves in God, in whom all desires are fulfilled.
