All works at once
-
Colossians 3:5
Colossians 3:5 begins the Greek description of a work that is spiritual, a work that is once for all and once for all. It shows that whatever has been dealt with in my life has been dealt with once and for all. This is made clear in Hebrews 10:10, where it teaches that Christ was sacrificed for us once for all. But it says that it is not just once but forever, but it also says once. This means that every time something tries to happen to us, we must act at once in one and all works of grace, which removes the very thing that caused us to act against God. Do not hesitate to act immediately on that task which was once and for all.
Holding back robs us of the victory that is ours. A delay gives Satan a head start on the arrangements we make in the body. Why should a person repeatedly think of an act intended by Almighty God who only reveals the truth? Christ has forsaken Adam once and for all, but through his life, we act at the same time as the test comes. To realize that work, and the reality of its working in us, is causing our earthly members to die. Our members no longer belong to that dust, but to something much higher. In our heavenly position (Ephesians 1:22; 25) and in the unity of our body of Christ (1 Corinthians 6:17, Ephesians 5:30), our members are members of life.
