Jayamsih..! Welcome to today’s devotion!
An exposition Luke 24:25; Hebrews 3:12-19
- If no one takes up his (own) cross, he cannot become a disciple. When he disobeys God’s message, he receives only a little more death, with which to listen to another message. He is choked with death, because of his unresponsive behavior to God’s call.
He listens to the Word, and says that he will pursue God’s vision and do whatever God says, but then he doesn’t do it. His loyalty only goes as far as the deceitfulness of his own heart. After that, God calls him again, telling him to go again. That person goes out with a renewed confession, but not with a renewed fellowship with God with an active step of faith to follow that confession. He hears the call again, but this time, not so loudly. Discipleship’s fervor is lessened, as his conscience is sharpened toward truth. Death has infiltrated his mind and is destroying his capacity for truth. He hears a small knock again and soon he never hears it again. His heart is hardened. The authority and pride of his own body came before the person of God, the word of God, the authority of God, the cross of God and the message of God.
A reminder from Isaiah 14: A stone is never placed in a temple by its own choice. A man does not circulate and integrate with anyone, and he can never make any specific impact on the world by himself. It is a showcase for what the temple would have looked like if it had been joined together with other stones.
