Lord, help me to live in such a way of self-forgetfulness day by day,
that when I kneel to pray, my prayers may be for others.
Help me to always be honest and true in all that I do,
and to know that everything I do for you needs to be done for others.
“Selfishness” must be crucified and killed,
and buried deep; and all efforts to rise again may be in vain,
unless it is to live for others.
And when my work on earth ends,
and my new work in heaven begins,
may I forget the crown I have won,
while thinking of others.
Others, Lord, yes others, let this be my motto,
help me to live for others,
so that I may live like you.
The meaning of the poem
