Knowledge above knowledge
Ephesians 3:14-21
It is truly amazing how people can stand so firmly in what they know. Education and knowledge are very important in the Christian faith; However, the power of the inner man is different from the knowledge of the outer man. How often do people live on the knowledge of past moments, knowledge of education or clear facts of the past? Thank God for a prayer like Paul’s in Ephesians 3. He prays that Christ dwells in our hearts. Christ dwells in our hearts, to take us out of the objectivity of the letter, into the subjective power of the inner man.
When we are strengthened in the inner man with strength, it gives us a life that reveals the length, breadth, height and depth of God’s love in our hearts. The gospel is the same kind of news of life. It is not in word, but only in power (1 Corinthians 4:20). It is not only objective, but a subjective life, based on the belief in objective truth, to give us that knowledge, which goes far beyond knowledge. Objectively, what I know today without objective knowledge can never take me beyond what someone else knows objectively. We can agree on all those truths, but we never experience the oneness that Christ living in our hearts can give.
This love, by the power of the Holy Spirit, carries us far beyond the knowledge of length, breadth, depth, and height, as we live by faith. However, we do not fall away from what we know, we experience a love that goes beyond what we know, so that we may know Him who contains all unsearchable riches. This is a mystery for ages.
