Eternal Hunger
Matthew 22:1-44
- What is God’s conduct? It is an act of love that invites everyone to come to the feast. Just as the king sent his servants, God sends the Spirit to minister to us personally. He is God in person, who calls us into the fellowship of His beloved Son (1 Corinthians 1:9, Colossians 1:13). He has chosen whom He calls. He calls them, turns them, renews them and baptizes them into the body of Christ. He stands with his church and does not stand with the kingdom established by mouth alone. Paul clearly knew that, along with denying Christ, the next greatest sin was persecuting Christ’s church (Acts 9:1-22). He despised himself most, generally speaking, because of his backward conduct toward the church (1 Cor. 15:9).
In this parable, the king was enraged and sent his soldiers to destroy the murderers. The Church is saved by Christ, and He does not want His servants attacked. This is God’s church. Those who do not eat the message of grace are deceived in their behavior towards others. They take on the wickedness of Satan, devouring, attacking, and persecuting those who have heard the message and accepted it in faith and are now living in grace. What people do is not the main issue. Sin is not an issue. The main issue is that people fail to accept the invitation of grace. That sacrifice no longer remains for them, meaning that no other sacrifice will make them acceptable to God except that one sacrifice, which is Christ the eternally slain Lamb. Men are not made worthy by their works, but by their acceptance by the invitation of grace.
