Can’t live up to the promises
Joshua 3:11
Every believer’s life will have times where he may not be able to hold on to the faith, or not live up to the promises. This does not mean that he will deny the truth. He will be unable to experience truths that he cannot deny for a certain period of time. To be sure, he wants to stand up to his promises, and he tries to do so, because he knows that this is how it should be. No matter how hard he tries, he stays where he is, and seems unable to reach his promises.
When the children of Israel could not hold on to the faith, the same thing was happening in their lives. This is presented in the Ark of the Covenant. That thing that killed the Philistines, crossed the Jordan River and brought down the walls of Jericho was the Ark of the Covenant. It represents more than a gold lampstand, more than a table of Hazari bread, and more than an altar of incense. It represents “God who is” by a covenant in grace. God cannot deceive himself. He must fulfill his own covenant. He has introduced it, and established it, and He cannot abrogate it. He cannot be satisfied with covenant breakers, but He will be satisfied with His covenant.
When the accuser of the brethren (Revelation 12:10) and the deceiver of the whole world (Revelation 12:9) lies, and accuses, we have the ark of the promise; It is that even though we experience weaknesses, Jesus Christ satisfied God’s judgment. If we deny Him, He remains faithful, and cannot deny Himself, (2 Timothy 2:13). Because of His promise, you are accepted in spite of your utter weakness.
