Jonah’s Attempt to Escape

Jonah boarded a ship and set out for Tarshish, but the sea voyage proved too dangerous. A fierce storm arose at sea, threatening to sink the ship. The crew members were afraid and wondered who had caused the disaster. Jonah blamed himself for the attack and offered to be thrown overboard until the storm would stop. After this, Jonah was thrown overboard and immediately swallowed by a huge fish .

Jonah’s time in the fish

Jonah’s time in the fish was 3 days and 3 nights. Jonah realized his situation and began to pray to God. This was a time of inner change for Jonah. Jonah admitted his mistakes and failures and prayed to God:

“You have delivered me from the pit of death. You have heard my prayer.”

When the king and citizens of Nineveh heard Jonah’s message, they began to repent of their sins and asked God for forgiveness.
