DOES GOD STILL SPEAK TO US TODAY?

The Bible records many times that God spoke to the people

(Exodus 3:14; Joshua 1:1; Judges 6:18; 1 Samuel 3:11; 2 Samuel 2:1; Job 40:1; Isaiah 7:3; Jeremiah 1:7; Acts 8:26; 9:15 – this is just a small sample). There is no biblical reason why God cannot speak audibly to a person today. While the Bible records that God spoke hundreds of times, we must remember that they occurred over a period of 4,000 years of human history. What God has spoken in a way that is heard is the exception, not the rule. Even in the biblical record of God speaking, it is not always clear whether it was an audible voice, or an inner voice, or a mental impression.

God speaks to people today. First, God speaks to us through His Word (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Isaiah 55:11 tells us, “So shall my word be that proceedeth out of my mouth. It will not return to me void, but it will accomplish what I desire, and it will succeed in the work for which I send it.” The Bible is God’s Word, it tells us everything we need to know to be saved and live the Christian life. Second Peter 1:3 declares, “Because we know him who called us by his glory and excellence, he has given us everything we need for life and godliness through the divine power of God.”

God also “speaks” through events—that is, He can guide us through the management of our circumstances (1 Timothy 1:5; 1 Peter 3:16). God is in the process of conforming the thoughts of our hearts to His thoughts (Romans 12:2). God causes events to occur in our lives to guide us, change us, and help us grow spiritually (James 1:2-5; Hebrews 12:5-11). First Peter 1:6-7 reminds us that, “In this you rejoice, though now for a little while you must suffer various things. Your faith is worth more than gold that burns in the fire but perishes. May this faith of yours be proved true, and be worthy of praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ appears.”

God sometimes speaks to people in a way that people can hear. This is highly questionable, although some people claim that it happens. Again, even in the Bible, hearing God speak is an exception, but not a common occurrence. If someone claims that God has spoken to them, always compare it to what the Bible says. If God were to speak today, His words would be in perfect agreement with what He says in the Bible (2 Timothy 3:16-17). God does not contradict Himself.

So be it! Amen! Revelation 1:7 And he was clothed in blood; And his name is called ‘Word of God’. Revelation 19:13 “And behold, I come quickly; And I have my reward to give to every man according to his work. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, the first and the last.” Revelation 22:12-13 Note: Today people don’t even have time to go to heaven. Believe in Jesus Christ and you will receive forgiveness of sins, salvation and eternal life.
