Misplacing God’s heart
Luke 22:50-51
Don’t mislead yourself. There is no need for God to act of his own free will to prove the sincerity of your faith. Many people misplace themselves in such a position. They misplace God’s heart in the plan. Don’t choose your career path that best exposes your spiritual potential.
There may not always be a need to extend the plan. Israel needed Elijah, and God’s plan for him was for him to spend a year in the house of the widow of Zarephath. Had he chosen the place of actual necessity from his own point of view and from the opinions of others, he would have removed himself from God’s plan.
After he was kissed by Jesus Christ at Judas’ betrayal (Luke 22:47-48), Peter’s zealous action may have seemed like retaliation (Luke 22:50, John 18:10), and yet it removed him from God’s heart. His purpose in striking the slave was to set Christ free, if he had done so, he would have deviated from the Father’s plan. Jesus touched the man’s ear and healed him (Luke 22:51). The Hebrew boys could have chosen a compromise so that the king would finally change his mind (Daniel 3). Many people live in a place of agreement so that they can be used by God, but in reality they lose the power of the covenant life, when they fail to obey God, that is when He calls them to another place. They never lose their salvation, but they do lose the experiential power to express redemptive life.
