A New Name
Isaiah 62:2
- “And you shall be called by a new name, a name which the mouth of the Lord shall name.”
By what name are you called? Every person in Christ has the privilege of being called by a new name. A name is a descriptive title. Moses asked the Lord, “What is your name?” And the Lord said to Moses, “I am that I am,” the only name that can explain His character, “He is eternal.”
Christ said that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
As you live by every word from His mouth, your name that defines your life is constantly renewed. When love and tenderness come from the mouth of God, it ceases to serve you, then love and tenderness are your names. When God talks to you about patience, your new name is Patience, and so on. As the I AM of His life is new at every moment, so you are continually called by a new name. You can never tell what you will say next, but it is certain that “as He is, so are you in this age.”
When a man and a woman become husband and wife, she is no longer called by her father’s name, but she takes her husband’s name. It is the same with the church, the bride of Christ. He is called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace, or King of Kings, the name of the church. - Today’s reading of the Bible – Genesis 37-39
